                         Meet the Teachers

Resonate Dance Owner and Artistic Director--

Alisha Sell is married to David Sell, has 4 kids, and has even taken in exchange students, so at times has a couple more!  "My husband is very supportive and helpful with all my dancing and other aspirations.  He often even joins us in performances!  Nothing makes me more happy than being a mother and a wife.  This was the main reason I wanted to keep my studio close to home, so I could always be there first for my family.  I love that my children see my passion for dance and get to share that with me!   My students always ask me how long I have been dancing.   My mom was my first dance teacher and taught while pregnant with me.  So, I always tell them, ‘I started dancing while in my mommy’s tummy!’  HA!  I’ve seriously danced and performed my entire life.   I’ve been teaching ever since I can remember but professionally teaching for 20+ yrs.  I got my degree at BYUI in Fine Arts Science and Dance and then at BYU in Recreation Therapy and Psychology.  I danced for numerous dance teams as a kid, at BYUI and UVU.  I was also a Teacher’s assistant and team president at BYUI, taught or choreographed for church events, Olympic Gym (subleased), Arthur Murray, Dance Barn, Great Events, etc.  I’ve owned my own dance group since 2006 and then opened my home studio in summer of 2009.   I still rent space for my larger team and classes.  Although I was trained in all areas of dance to some degree, my favorite genres are ballroom, Latin, swing, hip hop, dance lifts, country, creative, and lyrical.  I love working with children and helping them feel great about who they are.  I absolutely love to dance and love teaching!"

Ashley has performed since she was two, and has always had a passion for dance that was bigger than life. This is her 4th year with Resonate.  She has studied various forms including ballet, tap, choreography, improvisation, jazz, modern, hip-hop, ballroom, contemporary, and lyrical.  Ashley has performed in multiple stage shows, competitions, sports events, concerts, and local plays. She will currently be attending her second year at SCC; as a double major in Fine Arts of Dance, and Dance Technology. Ashley has been on the pre-professional company, Instinct, for the past two years. She gets to work with internationally known artists, and travel around locally to perform regularly. While at SCC she has received both the Freshman Dance Scholarship, as well as the Returning Student Dance Scholarship. As she continues to grow and explore her own performance values, she eagerly gives back to teach younger dance generations what she has learned along the way.  “I am so excited to be a part of Resonate Dance, and to have the opportunity to help children discover their passion and love for dance, just as my teachers did when I was young!” Ashley’s future plans are to continue pursuing a career in the performing arts, and use her passion to perform/create art for others to enjoy.

Katie has been involved in musical theatre since she was seven years old and performing since she was three.  "As a high school student, I was definitely known as that "drama nerd" as I was involved in every single school production as well as local community theatre.  Acting and singing have always been some of my passions.  Whether I was playing the lead role, a supporting role, or a member of the chorus, I enjoyed every single opportunity to be on stage, and while I loved all plays, musicals were my favorite. Since graduating college, I have focused my time on teaching junior high and high school English.   I have also been able to continue my love for theatre through directing various school productions and heading up the drama club at a local junior high.  Since I no longer work at that junior high, I had to get my love for theatre in somehow, so I am grateful Alisha gave me the opportunity to teach musical theatre at her studio.

Sheredith was born and raised right here in Mesa, AZ.  She has always enjoyed performing and dancing.  She grew up doing competitive gymnastics and switched to dance performance in junior high.  Dancing quickly became a passion after performing on the Pom and Cheer squad in 1999.  Throughout her dance career she has been trained in Jazz, Ballet, Modern, Folk, Country, Ballroom, and Tap.  She has coached gymnastics and tumbling for over seven years as a head coach.  She participated on the MCC Dance Company in 2004, then transferred to BYU.  While at BYU she trained in ballroom dance and competed in Dance Sport.   She graduated from BYU in 2008 with a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and currently teaches 5th grade in Gilbert.  She has continued her passion for dance by both coaching and performing.  Performances include solo dances for studio shows, MCC Dance Company shows, and the Resonate Ballroom Team.   She hopes to pass on this life-long passion, joy, and confidence to others as they participate in tumbling and dance.  In April of 2014, she married her sweetheart Devin.  They enjoy laughing, learning new things, and discovering new kinds of root beer.

Emily has been dancing since she was 8 learning tap, jazz, and ballet. Once 16 she studied further into jazz, and ballet, along with, contemporary, modern, hip hop, and broadway. She was on her high school dance company and a studio company for 2 years, and took many master classes around the state including Lauren Gottlieb and Travis Wall from SYTYCD. She then got married, and had a little boy, which inspired her to teach to be able to be a mom at home but still do what she loves! She has taught for Actors Youth Theatre, Tuscanny Theatre, FUSE performing arts center, and now Resonate dance! She loves her students and loves watching them grow in dance!

Katy  was born in Las Vegas, NV.  After graduating from High School, she moved to Utah to pursue her education.  In 2003 she graduated in English Education with a minor in Theatre Arts. She got her first job in the Salt Lake City valley as an English teacher at a Jr. High.  While she was experiencing being a rookie in education, she was also working on the side as an instructor of children’s musical theater classes offered by the Salt Lake community resources center.  She loved sharing her knowledge and love of music, theater, and the stage with the students.  Teaching in Utah was short lived however due to an offer to teach in Washington D.C..  She quickly accepted the offer to experience teaching in such a diverse and unique area.  While she was there, she worked close at hand with the drama department in the school she taught at to help put together the school musicals.  After four years of teaching in the D.C. area, her Western ways, and a Masters degree, brought her to the land of Arizona, where she was hired to teach at Stapley Jr. High, and where she would eventually earn her degree in curriculum and instruction.  Katy loves her job at Stapley.  She taught as an English teacher for three years there, all the while participating in the musical theater program offered at the school. Because of her involvement with the program, when the drama teacher decided to retire, Katy was the perfect shoo-in for the job.  In 2010, Katy went from English teacher, to drama teacher, and she said she’d never go back! Within the last several years of teaching drama, Katy has directed 5 full length plays.  Her plays have ranged from casts of 25-55.  She is the sole director of each elements of her play from the music to the acting to the choreography.  Her greatest joy in all of her work however is the students. Nothing is better than watching the growth in confidence and self-worth that is found in students when a passion in them is ignited or when they feel the overwhelming sense of achievement and accomplishment. She feels like she is the most blessed of people to be able to wake up everyday excited for the adventures that await her when working with students.
